Back in the late 1980′s, when the BMW M division’s portfolio was far more limited than today’s lineup which comprises of models of all sorts and sizes including SUVs, the Bavarians had an idea; what about creating an E34 M5 Convertible? Actually, it was more of an idea as BMW went ahead and developed a complete prototype that was supposed to be introduced at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show.

The legendary Yenko nameplate will find its way on a Chevy Camaro once again as the brand’s new owner, General Marketing Capital Incorporated (GMCI), will present its official 2010 Yenko Camaro Prototype to the public at the annual SEMA Trade Show in Las Vegas in November. Using a 2010 Camaro SS, the prototype will feature a ‘Phase I’ supercharged V8 engine with 600 horsepower coupled to a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox.

Remember the Veritas RS III, the open-cockpit purebred supercar with the M5-sourced V10 engine that pays homage to the 1940′s era BMW racing team? Well, it’s finally going into a limited series production with the first of a total of 30 hand-made examples set to be delivers to customers in January 2010. Veritas says that even before the actual start of production, five of the 30 luxury cars have already been sold while another eight have been reserved. But before you start day-dreaming, learn that prices start at a whopping €345,00 or about $517,000 at today’s exchange rates.

As strange as it may sound, Toyota’s namesake brand was absent from the South Korean market, home of its international rival, the Hyundai / Kia Group. While the world’s largest automaker has been active in South Korea since 2000 when it established a local arm and began selling the luxury Lexus brand the following year, up until now, it had not attempted to sell its Toyota branded vehicles in a country where Hyundai and affiliate Kia control over 70 percent of the market.

Nissan officials confirmed today that the automaker is planning to add a new entry-level model based on the soon-to-be-revealed Micra in its U.S. market lineup. The next generation Micra (think Toyota Yaris and Ford Fiesta competitor), which was teased with a pair of renderings as well as a set of leaked design sketches, is based on Nissan’s so-called “V-platform” that is said to give birth to two additional models aside from the hatchback, including a four-door sedan and a multipurpose vehicle.

Only a few hours after we posted the first brochure shots of the all-new Sai and Toyota officially took the veils off its new hybrid sedan that will make its public outing at this week’s Tokyo International Motor Show. Larger and more luxurious than the Prius, the Japanese automaker’s second dedicated hybrid car is a sister model to the Lexus HS 250h that recently went on sale in the U.S.

Named after the legendary, original Audi Quattro coupe of the late 1980s, AVUS Performance’s take on the new TT RS Coupe sees the car’s 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five receive a 110 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque bump thanks to the modified turbo, reprogrammed ECU and a new exhaust system. This brings the five-cylinder engine’s output to a total of 450HP and 472 lb-ft. Avus did not disclose prices for the engine mods.

As is common this time of year, Mitsubishi has launched the 2010 model year version of the Lancer EVO X for the Japanese market. Changes for the new model year are limited to the beefier side skirts, the use of new plastics up front that are said to weigh 1.5kg or about 3.3 pounds less than those they replace, a new color LCD screen between the speedometer and rev-counter with more functions, improved insulation and some minor tweaks to the interior trim.

Fans of the long-gone Supra, MR2 and even the Celica may rejoice; as we tipped you off a few hours ago, Toyota has just released the first official photos of the FT-86, a near-production concept model of its Subaru co-developed rear-wheel drive coupe that will make its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. The production version of the 2+2 seater sports coupe, whose conceptual name harks back to the popular RWD Corolla AE86 of the mid-1980s, is due to go on sale towards the end of 2011.

Along with the release of the latest installment of the Gran Turismo for the Sony PSP, the makers of the video game published an official list with the 830 standard cars from 87 different automakers that are featured in the game. However, keep in mind that, as the creators of the game pointed out, the list does not include some special edition cars. Check out the list after the break.
