This year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, being held from 17-27 September, will see Seat unveiling its most potent series production model to date, the new Leon Cupra R. Based on the 2009MY Leon Cupra facelift that was revealed at the Barcelona Show in April, the R replaces the standard model’s 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot with a 265-horsepower direct injection 2.0 TSI.

We don’t know what’s more startling – the car itself that has a mere 99 miles on the odo and appears to be in pristine factory condition or the fact that someone actually brought a brand-new Ford Mustang GT 5.0 V8 (can’t say that the Fox body was a high moment in the Stang’s history…) in 1985 and kept it in climate controlled storage for almost a quarter of a century. Either way, if you’re interested, the 1985 Mustang GT is up for auction on eBay where the highest bid is currently at $18,100 – though the reserve has not been met.

Every once in a while we stumble upon a design project that we’d really like to see making it into production. Such is the case of the Mazda Yuuga Coupe that was penned by Swansea Metropolitan University automotive design graduate, Imran Ali, and exhibited at the 2009 Degree Show in July at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea, UK. The Yuuga is a sleek looking four-seater coupe inspired by Mazda’s conceptual and production-model design language but does away with the firm’s ’smiley face’ grille.

Never satisfied with the factory Jaguars, German tuner Arden has introduced its take on the revised 2010 Jaguar XKR Convertible. Arden starts by hiking the performance of the new 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that gains 30 horsepower and 50 Nm of torque for a total output of 540 horsepower and 675 Nm (498 lb-ft). A sport suspension with new shocks and the removal of the electronic speed limiter complete the changes under the skin.

General Motors will introduce a new five-passenger crossover to Buick’s range in late 2010 that will be offered with a family of direct-injected gasoline engines followed in 2011 by a plug-in hybrid model that is expected to be the first mass produced SUV of its kind. If the front quarter teaser photo is anything to go by, we’d say that the yet-to-be-named Buick crossover appears to be a rebadged Saturn Vue, which makes sense since the Saturn brand will be discontinued from GM’s portfolio at the end of the year (GM has agreed to sell the marque to Penske).

Following Australia and South Africa, Japan will be the third country outside Europe to receive the British-built Civic Type R 3-door hatchback. The model, which will be called the Civic Type R EURO to distinguish it from the Japanese-market 4-door Civic Type R saloon, will go on sale in Japan from 2010 in limited numbers. The European-spec Type R is powered by a high-revving 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four that makes 201 HP at 7,800 rpm and 142 lb-ft of torque at 5,600 rpm.
